A seasonal Fall tour of the Great Chicago Fire could be added to Big Bus Chicago's tour bus routes! During this 3 mile hop-on hop-off tour, guests will be given an AR device to view what Chicago was like back in 1871 before the fire struck. This informational tour will provide an insight into Chicago's rich history as well as aware tourists and native Chicagoans alike what exactly happened during the Great Chicago Fire.
THE EXPERIENCE
Guests will be given ‘smartphones’ that have the tour’s itinerary in it. Guests can decide whether or not to use them to view the tour or to listen to an informational guide in the language of their choosing, if English is not their first language. A Big Bus Chicago tour guide will also be on board. These devices will be using camera recording capabilities and overlay historically accurate buildings over what exists today. Important scenes that occurred during the Great Fire would play at certain spots during the tour, for example, at the start of the tour and the fire, it will show the O'Leary's and the cow that supposedly started the fire.

The bus route would start at DeKoven street, picking up guests at the Field Museum of Natural History, and work its way all the way to Water Tower where tourists could decide to stay or take the tour bus back to the museum. Because this is a hop-on hop-off tour, guests with a valid ticket can decide when and where they'd like to get off, however the devices must remain on the bus.

This experience is for all ages.

THE INVESTMENT
HARDWARD & SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
For this tour, we plan to use existing older model mobile devices with larger screen sizes. Mobile device requirements would include a AR/VR ready smartphone. Specifications of at least a QHD screen, 4GB of RAM and a chipset powerful enough to keep up with AR demands. The tour package will also include a pair of earbuds for customers to take home at the end of the tour. Using older hardware that is still VR and AR ready will greatly reduce the overall hardware cost.
Big Bus Chicago tour buses generally hold about 60-68 people. Each bus will carry 70 AR devices
